  1. The Dr. Sr. Helen Vincent Endowment Lecture was held on the 14th of August 2013. The speaker was Dr. Hema R, Professor Madras School of Economics, Chennai. The topic she spoke on was "India's Energy Challenge at the Crossroads" It was indeed an interesting lecture and the entire student body of the Economics Department was present for it.
Just before the lecture began the A COMPENDIUM OF THE DR. SR. HELEN VINCENT LECTURES was released. This Compendium consists of all the lectures delivered from 1990- 91 onwards

  2. A NOTE ABOUT THE DR. SR. HELEN VINCENT ENDOWMENT LECTURES

Looking at the life and contributions made by Dr. Sr. Helen Vincent to the cause of higher education and research, I am reminded of Robert Bryan’s saying viz. “The purpose of Life is a Life of purpose”. This truly is the right description of Dear Dr. Sr. Helen Vincent on whose name the college instituted the Dr. Sr. Helen Vincent Endowment Lecture in the year 1990. She started her career in Stella Maris College in 1964 as Assistant Professor of Economics and rose to the position of the Head of the Post Graduate and Research Department of Economics. Sister belonged to the first batch of B.Ed. Students of the Stella Matutina College of Education, wherein she obtained both the gold and silver medals.
Dr. Sr. Helen Vincent has held various positions such as the Principal and Secretary of Stella Maris College, Secretary – Xavier Board of Higher Education in India, Principal of the Community College in Santhome, Correspondent of Raphael’s Higher Secondary School and is currently the Director of English language and Life Skills Training in Stella Maris College.
Sister is the recipient of several awards both at the state and national levels: to name a few she has received The All India Eminent Educationist Award, the Best Principal Award, the Best Teacher Award, and The President’s Medal for Service Rendered to Education.
An able administrator and an ardent researcher, the toil involved in the former has in no way deterred the work and passion of the latter. She has guided a number of research projects and has also been a fervent researcher herself. Sister has published a number of papers and has travelled widely.
Even today she is academically active. Neither age, nor physical weakness, has been an impediment for her, in her pursuit for knowledge. I am reminded of Denis Waitley’s saying - It is not in the pursuit of happiness that we find fulfillment, it is in the happiness of pursuit. Sister’s life has truly been a a life of pursuit and this has given her happiness and fulfillment.
We know that “life is a hyphen between matter and spirit”. Let us learn to define this hyphen from the example set by Sister.
Thank you dear Dr. Sr. Helen Vincent
Bringing out this compendium has indeed been a daunting task. All the available lectures have found a place in this compendium. I am truly grateful for all the help rendered by the editorial team and for the meticulous proof reading done by Ms. Raihana Sabir, Associate Professor of Economics, and Dr. Christina Rajkumar, former Vice Principal and Associate Professor of the English Department of Stella Maris College. For the typing work done by various students of the II MA Economics class of the 2013 2014 batch and for other technical support rendered by Ms. Jayalaksmi, Asst. Prof of Economics, I will ever be grateful

    Dr. Crystal David John
Head of the Post Graduate &
    Research Department of Economics
